Obsidian Heart Handmade Jewelry

“I noticed there was not a brand that combined handmade gemstone jewelry, cultures, intersectional identities, and the need to do something to combat injustice. So I created this brand.” Clarissa Laguardia

Welcome to my shop!

My name is Clarissa. I am the master maker at Obsidian Heart. I’m a proud Salvadoran immigrant with a fiery passion for language, culture, and social justice.

I decided to name my shop Obsidian Heart because obsidian was one of the stones of choice of the Maya and Aztec indigenous native inhabitants of Mesoamerica (what is now Mexico & Central America).

I was born and raised in El Salvador. As other fellow immigrants can relate, my heart will forever long for the land of my ancestors. I feel whole when surrounded by volcanoes and that tropical jungle. California has been my home for the last 17 years. It is where I became politically aware! I love and appreciate the diversity America has to offer. And I am here to elevate, celebrate, and contribute in any humble way to move it forward.

We live in a a society that is at a breaking point. It is up to all of us to question, speak, and stand up. I dream of helping others heal from the harm brought by racial injustices and do what I can to dismantle systems of oppression.

I noticed there was not a brand that combined handmade gemstone jewelry, cultures, intersectional identities, and the need to do something to combat injustice. So I created this brand.

Obsidian Heart’s jewelry is a medium of self-expression that refuses to be defined by social constructs of gender and race. Obsidian Heart’s jewelry is intended to speak to those who care about issues like climate change, racial and social equality, LGBTQIA+ rights, immigrants, animal cruelty, sustainability, and access.

Obsidian Heart pledges to donate 1% of each sale to non-profits doing radical work out there. Let us know if you know of an organization that is doing unique community grassroots work.
